Dancers have 48 hours to learn routines

Winchester Cultural Center will host a countywide 48-Hour Dance Competition this weekend for dancers ages 11 to 19, and the public can view the results at 6 p.m. Sunday in the center's theater, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

Contestants will have 48 hours to choreograph an original piece, gather costumes and rehearse after being given their assignments on Friday. The contest is limited to 20 groups.

Public admission to the final competition on Sunday is $5 at the door.

Dancers in groups of three to five people will draw envelopes Friday night that contain a song and genre of dance, such as contemporary, modern, jazz, hip-hop and Broadway. Group members must work together without the help of professional performers or choreographers.

Judges will consider originality, costumes, technique and other skills when awarding three prizes ranging from $50 to $300.
