Dance, jazz shows conclude annual Super Summer season

The annual Super Summer Theatre season at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park wraps up this month with two special events, including performances Friday and Saturday by the Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater.

The dance group, a repertoire company devoted to all forms of dance including classical, modern and contemporary, will perform at 7 p.m. in the outdoor theater at the park, 15 miles west of Las Vegas off Charleston Boulevard. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. For information or tickets, call 594-7529 or visit www.super summertheatre.com on the Web.

Featured in the dance program is new choreography by artistic director Bernard H. Gaddis and associate director Kevin C. Gibbs.

"Ghosts in the Landscape" will be choreographed by Gibbs. Gaddis takes control of several pieces, including the romantic neoclassical ballet "Essentially Bach"; "Mood Indigo," with music by jazz greats Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck; and "Love in Stillness," a contemporary duet.

A highlight of the program is expected to be "Brethren," which features an all-male ensemble performing a work that premiered in 1997 and originally was dedicated to male dancers lost in the fight against AIDS.

Super Summer concludes Sept. 12 and 13 with performances by the Las Vegas Jazz Society.
