Celebrate the King’s birthday with Wise

Cirque du Soleil missed its deadline to get "Viva Elvis" into fighting shape for a star-studded debut on Elvis Presley's birthday today (preview performances continue until Feb. 19). But Dennis Wise is much more dependable.

Wise has done an Elvis birthday-weekend salute in Las Vegas for many of his years as an impersonator, and he was in on the ground floor of the cottage industry.

The Missouri native started his Elvis tribute in 1978, the year after the real Elvis died, and has counted more than 10,000 shows since then.

He sings at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Drive. Tickets are $12; call 547-5300.
