Artists combine efforts in Springs Preserve gallery exhibit

Las Vegas artists Linder Alterwitz-Mizrahi and Heather Protz have teamed up to exhibit their photography in a show that opens Saturday at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd.

"6 Months: Shared Ideas Stolen Spaces" will continue in the preserve's Big Spring Gallery of the Origen Experience through April 5.

The Springs Preserve is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Tickets range from $10.95 to $18.95, depending on age. There are discounts for Nevada residents, seniors and students, and children younger than 5 are admitted free.

The exhibit combines work each artist has photographed over the past six months. What began as a project to share images for composites evolved into a merging of two visions into one, says Alterwitz-Mizrahi.

"Although our images in the show are individual efforts, the show as a whole is a collaborative work," she says. "It's hard to differentiate where my pieces end and Heather's begin. It really is two artists as one."

Alterwitz-Mizrahi comes from a fine arts background and explains that much of her photography reflects the abstract expressionism of her paintings. Protz, on the other hand, shot more straightforward imagery that she digitally manipulated for a more abstract look.

The pieces in the exhibit are not signed, and they are displayed as multiple, alternating images joined together as one. Images are nearly 3 feet high and stretch more than 100 feet around two walls.
