All-day breakfast at Stacks & Yolks sends lunch packing

“I want a full stack of lemon blueberry pancakes,” I said.

“No, you don’t,” my waiter responded as he sized me up. “How many people are you sharing with? That’s enough to feed everyone at this table.”

The Stacks & Yolks waiter was right. Even the scaled-back short stack — featuring two thick, fluffy pancakes as big as the oversized plate, coated in powdered sugar and stuffed with fresh blueberries — was enough to feed two with leftovers to take home.

Breakfast is served all day at Stacks & Yolks. And unlike many breakfast and lunch spots that close at 2 or 3 p.m., this eatery is open daily until 9 p.m., so all day really means something.

While buttermilk pancakes are the stars, for $1 more, patrons can indulge in pancake batter flavored in red velvet, orange cranberry, cinnamon, peanut butter, coconut and more. Topping options include strawberries, bananas, Nutella and blueberries. The menu also includes waffles, French toast and biscuits with gravy.

Egg lovers can choose from omelets, eggs Benedict or eggs with elaborate accompaniments, such as corned beef hash, country fried steak and full skillet meals. And despite the eatery’s name, egg whites are an option.

House specials include Kit’s Homemade Cornbeef Hash, with meat braised four hours in brown ale; and marinated steak tips, a dish the menu swears is marinated for 18 hours in “unicorn tears.”

Lunch options feature burgers that can be topped in everything from avocado and jalapeno to egg and roasted red pepper. There are also patty, tuna, turkey, Philly, garden and chicken melts; salads; wraps and cold sandwiches.

Prices start at 99 cents for one egg or $2.99 for a single giant pancake, and nothing on the menu is more than $15. There is plenty of seating in the warm reclaimed wood dining room or at sidewalk tables outside.

Stacks & Yolks is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
