Black Camaro, the ‘jammers of the jam,’ performing at Jillian’s
At times, they sound like a muffler-less hot rod, all growling guitars and hip shakin' rumble. At other times, they swing like a sunbaked T. Rex. Either way, Black Camaro's got jams to spare. Singer/guitarist Brian Garth gives us a peek under the hood.
What does Black Camaro sound like?
"We are the jammers of the jam. The livers of the life. We are the Children of the Light!"
You recorded your latest EP in Eugene. What did you dig the most about your time in Oregon, the land of microbrews?
"The studio (Gung Ho) was pretty much the only place we hung out at for three days on this last trip and it was amazing. But our studio engineer Lazer Lavin made us some veggie meatballs that weren't half bad."
What are some essential road trip tunes?
"Tom (Miller, guitars/keys) and Jason (Wilda, bass) like Reigning Sound and The Oblivians, while Scott (Trujilo, drums) will opt for some Beatles. Fuzz (Jimi Berg, guitars/congas) has no pref cause he's always stoned asleep and BG only listens to his own stuff."
Rank the following in order from your favorite to least favorite: Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Black Mountain, Black Francis, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Black Eyed Peas, Black Oak Arkansas
"Black president '08, black licorice, Black Camaro, black widows, Black Flag (BG has a tattoo), 'Blackacidevil' (Danzig's fifth album), Black Keys, Black Jenny, Black Camaricans."
Your first record was titled "White People F!@#$ed Up The Blues." Who are the guiltiest parties?
"Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Sam Phillips, Sal Calypso, The Colonel, some Rod Stewart, Jonny Lang and Lipz at the Bunkhouse Saloon effs it up on the harmonica every Tuesday night at 10 p.m."
See Black Camaro at 8 p.m. Friday at Jillian's, 450 Fremont St.
