Big bucks offered in football contests
It's kickoff time for the NFL and one of the most popular football contests in town awaits your picks. Now in its 22nd year, Station Casinos Great Giveaway Football Contest is giving away $1.4 million as well as new prizes such as Engle Homes and BMWs. The contest, which only includes Sunday and Monday games, can be played at Palace Station, Boulder Station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa, Santa Fe Station, Sunset Station and Texas Station. It will include the new Aliante Station in North Las Vegas when it opens Nov. 11. And all it costs is a $25 entry fee.
Over the 17-week NFL season, Great Giveaway will award $45,000 each week with the top winner guaranteed either a $10,000 cash prize or a new BMW 328i, and the top loser guaranteed $5,000. And more than 400 contestants will win end-of-season cash, prizes and free slot play totaling more than $500,000. The contestant who picks the most season winners as well as most season losers will each win a new Engle home valued at $240,000 or $100,000 cash. The popular "Fiddle in the Middle" returns with total cash prize winnings of $200,000 this year for selecting the equal number of wins and losses for the entire season. .
You might also want to get in on The Challenge, where more than $200,000 will be given away. For a $1,000 non refundable entry fee, the first place prize is guaranteed at a minimum of $100,000 or 50 percent of the total entry fees collected, with second- and third-place winners collecting $20,000 and $10,000 respectively. The contest offers prizes to those who place in the top 20. No more than three entries per person.
The Challenge is based on picking five NFL selections each week or selecting one college winning team or one total against the Station Casinos' contest line as part of the contestant's five picks. Winners will be determined by the most points accumulated during the 2008-2009 college and pro NFL football regular season.
Additionally, contest participants have a chance to drive off in a new Mercedes Benz C-350 W for selecting over 67 percent winners (57 points) for the season. Additionally, the contestant who accumulates the most points over the final four weeks of the season can win an additional $12,500 prize. The Challenge can be played at Palace Station, Boulder Station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa, Santa Fe Station, Sunset Station and Texas Station.. Deadline to sign up for The Challenge is September 6
If neither of the above tickles your fancy, there's always the $50,000 Station Casinos' Last Man Standing Elimination Football Contest that is based on picking one winning pro football team against the contest line weekly at Station properties. Selections will be made against the point spread listed on the weekly contest card and if it is a winning selection, that entry will remain in the contest for the following week. The fee is $25 per entry.
Each contestant may purchase up to four entries total and will receive a fifth entry free. Boarding Pass or Station Bucks may not be used for payment of entries. The prize money will be awarded to the last contestant remaining at the end of the regular season. If the weekly selection is a losing selection or a contestant fails to submit a weekly selection, that entry will be declared eliminated. There will be no ties and all games will be half point spreads.
Last Man Standing is available at Palace Station, Boulder Station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa, Santa Fe Station, Sunset Station and Texas Station. $50,000 will be the minimum guaranteed aggregate prize. The weekly contest card will be available every Tuesday during the NFL season. Participants must sign up by September 6 to be eligible. Good luck to all, but not too much as I really want to win all three contest.
