Get a lift from Los Pinguos at East Las Vegas center

An evening of Latin music performed by Los Pinguos will be presented Saturday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the 7 p.m. show. Call 229-1515 for details.

Los Pinguos moved to Los Angeles from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2001 with a mixture of Latin rhythms performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban tres (guitar), Peruvian cajon (box drum) and harmonizing vocals. Described as the "South American version of the Beatles" and a "hot Argentine folk groove band" by fans, the five musicians perform music that is uplifting but remains hard to classify. They incorporate reggae, bossa nova, rock, salsa, cumbia, boleros and Cuban rhythms into their sound.

The group's music has been played on TV shows "The Shield" and "The L Word," and is featured in the Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson film "Imagining Argentina."
