North Las Vegas filled with Tastes & Tunes this weekend

The city of North Las Vegas will present its seventh annual Tastes & Tunes celebration, a festival of culture, heritage and music, on Friday and Saturday in front of City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive.

The two-day urban street festival kicks off from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and continues from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Admission to the event is free, and an all-day pass for carnival rides, which can be purchased at the site, costs $25.

The featured musical guests are Whodini on Friday and Sugarfoot's Ohio Players on Saturday. Each is scheduled to perform at 9:30 p.m. Music will be featured on two stages throughout most of the event.

Other special activities include a car show from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and a salsa recipe contest from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Golden Gloves boxing will be featured from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

A marketplace with vendors selling jewelry, clothing, beauty products, art, candles, ceramics and other items will be open each day. Food vendors also will be on hand. The Culinary Training Academy plans to present cooking demonstrations.

A kids' interactive tent will offer arts and crafts activities for the younger set.
