Clark County Fair offers down-home good time
Pig races and corn on the cob: Two necessities for any county fair.
Both will be plentiful at the 22nd annual Clark County Fair and Rodeo, which kicks off today and runs through Sunday in Logandale.
Every day of the fair features several Swifty Swine competitions, corn on the cob, and every other kind of fair food and activity you can imagine, says fair manager Kevin Willard.
The fair opens at 10 a.m. today with the children's rodeo offering kids the chance to ride stick horses in barrel races and other events, Willard says. Exhibit halls will be open, featuring horticultural and agricultural exhibits such as rabbits, chickens, vegetables and livestock.
In one exhibit, called "A Day at the Farm," kids get to pick vegetables and then trade them for a commodity such as an ice cream cone. The dairy display will show how much food a cow eats in a year and how much milk the cow will give during the same year.
The carnival opens at 1 p.m. today with the rodeo starting at 6 this evening. That is followed by a concert from Heidi Newfield, formerly of Trick Pony, at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $28.
Entertainment is offered throughout the fair, with scheduled concerts, roving performers and continuous shows in several areas of the fairgrounds. Pirates for Hire, master yodeler Kenny Christensen, Jeff Martin, and local gymnasts, ballet dancers and cloggers are among the scheduled performers.
The rodeo starts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. today and Sunday. Tickets cost $16 for admission into the fair and rodeo today, $18 Friday through Sunday. Seating is reserved.
Admission to the fair is required for carnival access. General gate admission is $8; $6 for people 60 and older and children ages 5 to 12. An all-day carnival and fair pass costs $26, or individual ride tickets can be purchased.
Carnival hours are from 1 to 11 p.m. today; noon to midnight Friday; 10:30 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The fairgrounds are at 1301 W. Whipple Ave. in Logandale. For further details, visit ccfair.com or call (888) 876-3247.
