Stay cool on one of the city’s indoor ice rinks

Want to escape the heat?

Try skating at one of the valley's three indoor ice rinks, where a slab of frozen water does wonders to keep temperatures cool. It's a nice change from recent weather that has seen thermometers top the 110-degree mark.

The Las Vegas Ice Center, 9295 W. Flamingo Road, offers public skating sessions at various times throughout the week, but hours can change on a daily basis so call ahead at 320-7777. Admission is $7, $6 for seniors and ages 18 and younger. Skates rent for $2.

The Fiesta Ice Arena in the Fiesta Rancho, 2400 N. Rancho Drive, has community skating events 12:30- 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays; 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Thursdays; 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m. Fridays; 1-3 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays; and 1:30-3 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $6.50, and skate rental is $2.75. On Sundays, admission is $6 and includes rental. Call 631-7000 for details.

The Athletic Arts Academy, 6150 Annie Oakley Drive, offers public skating 6-8 p.m. Fridays; 1-3 and 3-5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-3 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $6 and skate rental is $2. Call 450-2787 for more information.
