Nathan Tanouye Sextet readies free jazz concert

An afternoon of jazz by the Nathan Tanouye Sextet will be presented Saturday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center Amphitheatre, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Admission to the 2 p.m. concert is free. Led by composer, arranger and trombonist Nathan Tanouye, the group performs original Tanouye compositions and hip arrangements of jazz standards.

Formed in 2001, the Nathan Tanouye Sextet made its debut on the CD "Coming Home," featuring the music of Tanouye. Over the years, the group has performed at several local venues.

Among the musicians in the latest incarnation of the band are Rebecca Ramsey on violin, Marc Solis on saxophone and Dave Loeb on piano.

Tanouye was born in Platteville, Wis., in 1974. He studied piano and trombone as a youth. In 1995, Tanouye earned a music scholarship from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he completed his degrees in both classical and jazz performance. Since 1998, he has been principal trombonist in the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
