Pigasus rocker says band sounds like ‘God screaming’
No frills, no nonsense, badass rock 'n' roll is what Pigasus is all about. These coed knuckle dusters come with groove and grit to spare. Singer/guitarist Jesse Amoroso breaks down the get down.
What does Pigasus sound like?
"God screaming at the top of his lungs! Duane Allman would be proud."
According to Wikipedia, Pigasus is John Steinbeck's personal stamp, the Yippies candidate for president in 1968 and an award that recognizes paranormal frauds. Where do you guys fit in among all that?
"It's also a lovely restaurant in Sedona, Ariz., a kids card game (like Old Maid) and an awesome way to fold origami. In short, we are everything. Pigasus is everything."
Jesse and Roxie (Amoroso, bass) are married. What are the pros and cons of being in a band with your significant other?
"Rox and I have been in the same bands for the last seven, eight years, seems natural at this point. And not only do we make music that makes D.A. proud, but together we also created Gibson Amoroso, the baby that would make D.A. proud."
Public service time. Name five real rock 'n' roll records that should be required listening for all the emo kids out there reading this.
"1) Sex Pistols, 'Nevermind the Bollocks.' Steve Jones' guitar tone is the (expletive). 2) Hellacopters, 'By the Grace of God.' These Swedes can play. 3) ZZ Top. Any of the first three albums. 4) Blue Cheer, 'Vincebus Eruptum.' One of the heaviest bands ever. 5) Deep Purple, 'In Rock.' "
See Pigasus at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Double Down, 4640 Paradise Road. The show is free; call 791-5775.
