Earhart resurfaces in movie theaters
October 22, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Movie: "Amelia"
When: Opening Friday at local theaters
Cast: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor
Director: Mira Nair
The story: In 1937, record-setting pilot Amelia Earhart attempts an around-the-world flight -- but disappears before completing the trip.
The buzz: Swank, a two-time Oscar winner, teams up with acclaimed Indian director Mira Nair ("The Namesake," "Monsoon Wedding") for this biopic, the second movie this year to feature Earhart as a major character; sassy Amy Adams played her in "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian." On TV, she has been portrayed by Diane Keaton (an Emmy nominee for the 1994 "Amelia Earhart: The Final Flight") and Susan Clark (Emmy-nominated for 1976's "Amelia Earhart").
