Sarandon, Robbins split

After 23 years together, a publicist has confirmed that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins split up over the summer. Publicist Teal Cannady did not elaborate. Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, have two sons together. They met while shooting the 1988 film "Bull Durham." Robbins last appeared in 2008's "City of Ember." Sarandon stars in "The Lovely Bones," which opens next month.

Singer charged with assault

According to police, singer Amy Winehouse was charged Wednesday in connection with an assault at a theater. The 26-year-old was arrested after she came to a police station with her lawyer, Thames Valley Police said in a statement. She was charged under the name Amy Civil -- she divorced husband Blake Fielder-Civil in July -- with a public order offense and common assault following an incident Saturday at Milton Keynes Theater. She is free on bail and must appear in court on Jan. 20. Details of the incident were not released, but the British press has reported she was heckled at a performance and then allegedly struggled with the theater's staff.

Caucus asks MTV to ax show

The New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus has asked MTV to cancel the reality show "Jersey Shore." Saying it promotes ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive," the caucus sent a letter Tuesday to Viacom, MTV's parent company. Advertisers also have been asked by the state lawmakers to boycott the show, which focuses on eight people and their adventures in Seaside Heights, N.J. A Viacom spokesman referred a comment request to an MTV spokesperson, who did not immediately respond.
