Chief sentenced in break-in

Barry Carpenter, a former Ohio police chief, received two years and eight months in prison Wednesday for his role in a break-in at the home of the surrogate who had twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. Carpenter was convicted in November on charges of theft in office, receiving stolen property and evidence tampering. He was acquitted on other counts. Carpenter, who resigned two weeks ago as chief in Martins Ferry, was immediately taken into custody after the sentencing. His lawyer, Dennis McNamra, has vowed to appeal the decision.
