Your 5 best bets for entertainment in the week ahead
'King's Life'
The guest of honor never shows up, but "A Celebration of the King's Life" at the Cannery nonetheless has become an annual reunion with a remarkably stable lineup. The head tribute artist for the two-day celebration is again Johnny Fortuno, and he's again teamed with the real Stamps Quartet, which backed the real Elvis. And again look for Elvis movie co-stars Cynthia Pepper and Darlene Tompkins in festivities at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15 at the door; call 702-507-5700.
'Night With the King'
Elvis would have been 81 on Friday, so if you really want to maximize your sequined jump suit time, you can spend one night at the Cannery and one at The Orleans. The latter hosts "One Night With the King" (even though it's actually two, Saturday and Sunday), featuring three Elvis impersonators to capture each era: Kavan as the young one, Brandon Bennett from the Chicago cast of "Million Dollar Quartet" as the black leather one and Bill Cherry as the jump-suited one. Tickets are $21.75-$43.55 for the 8 p.m. shows Saturday and Sunday at The Orleans. Call 702-365-7075.
Shawn Wayans
We are more used to seeing Shawn Wayans teamed up with brother Marlon lately, but even when they are together they aren't really. Stand-up is an art form "best served one on one," Shawn noted a few years ago. The Wayans who started in stand-up when his brothers were already famous plays the South Point at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Tickets are $30-$40; call 866-796-7111.
Flock of Seagulls
Usually when A Flock of Seagulls plays Vegas, it's part of a packaged tour with other '80s pop bands, which only gives them time to play "I Ran (So Far Away)" and a few lesser hits. But seeing the band still fronted by Mike Score (albeit balder than his famous '80s haircut) as the sole headliner gives the Brit-pop band time for all the album cuts. See them at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Suncoast. Tickets are $22-$49; call 702-284-7777.
Burton Cummings
Classic rock fans haven't had to say Guess Who to the solo-billed dates by Burton Cummings. The voice behind songs such as "These Eyes" and "American Woman" played The Orleans in May and returns Thursday to launch a three-night encore. Tickets for the 9 p.m. shows are $43.55-$65.35; call 702-365-7075.
