Despite a slight increase in traffic last year — 6.3 million visitors in 2013 — Lake Mead National Recreation Area dropped to sixth on the list of the most visited national park sites.

Whether it is to stroll down the street on Rollerblades or bicycles, walk the pavement or even roll around in a giant hamster ball, the city of Henderson is opening up the path for all residents to experience a car-free Henderson for a day Nov. 9. Its inaugural Stroll ’n Roll — a spin on the Ciclovia event, which originated in Bogota, Colombia — invites residents to take to the streets. “We were looking at what type of events could get people out to participate in fun and healthy activities,” said Mary Ellen Donner, the director of the city of Henderson’s parks and recreation department who is helping to organize Stroll ’n Roll.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada has been given the green light, or the green lane rather, to create a network of green bicycle lanes and related signs on various downtown roadways. These include First, Third and Sixth streets; and Hoover, Gass, Garces, Bonneville, Clark, Bridger and Ogden avenues.

Las Vegas may be a town that never sleeps but it certainly knows how to relax.

Having opened its first location last year in Henderson, Tennis WerX, an indoor tennis teaching facility, has opened a second site at 2651 Crimson Canyon Drive. The high-energy instruction includes social skills for kids.
