Restaurant inspections protect the public

If you’ve ever wondered how restaurants earn those B’s, C’s and closures that land them in the Restaurant Report in each Wednesday’s Taste section — and, more to the point, how other restaurants earn the A’s that keep them out of the newspaper — here’s a primer, courtesy of Gregg Wears and Carol Culbert.

Restaurant Report

Aloha Kitchen, 2605 S. Decatur Blvd., received 20 demerits Dec. 29. Violations included several pans stored on top of uncovered foods in storage. GRADE: B.

Spiral Wines Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

In the glass: Spiral Wines Cabernet Sauvignon is a deeply opaque blood-ruby red color with a blackish core going out into a fine purplish-crimson red to light fuchsia rim definition with medium viscosity.

Restaurant Report

Bombay Indian Cuisine, 3049 Las Vegas Blvd. South, received 28 demerits Dec. 21. Violations included storing open bags of food in dry storage area. GRADE: C.
