SAN GENNARO FEAST
Mangia! It’s the 30th annual festival of the patron saint of Naples and zeppole. Come celebrate from 4 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Sept. 18, 11 a.m. to midnight Sept. 19 and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Grand Canyon Shopping Center, 4245 Grand Canyon Drive. In addition to the food, there will be free entertainment from Lena Prima, Zowie Bowie, Dick Contino, Ronn Lucas and more. Tickets are $7 at the door ($6 for seniors and free for children 54 inches and under).

It may be bad for your knees, liver, etc., but it’s good for the soul. Beer and roller skates usually lead to some bruised shins and sore ankles the next day, but it will all totally be worth it when the Down & Derby Roller Skating Disco hits town this weekend.
In a recent Las Vegas Sun interview (by Kristen Peterson), Smith Center for the Performing Arts official Candy Schneider made a statement that jumped out at me: “We have a ton of arts, a wealth of it. But you have to go and find it. The Philharmonic is not going to send a van to your front door. Every organization’s doing everything (it) can to reach the community, but it’s up to the residents to engage.”
