Strip Tips: Pay it forward at Hard Rock pool
Finally, spending a lazy day by the pool can actually help a good cause.
Through Aug. 30, the Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road, will host “Pay It Forward Fridays” at the swimming pool. Each week a designated nonprofit will receive the proceeds from the Friday rentals of up to 14 pool cabanas.
Cabanas are equipped with plasma TVs, telephones, refrigerators and bottled water. They will be available for $100; participating nonprofits will have the opportunity to rent their cabanas to volunteers, supporters and staff.
Friday’s rentals will benefit Stomach Cancer Relief Network Inc. On June 7, the money will be paid forward to Aid For Aids of Nevada. Rounding out June: Discovery Children’s Museum and Links For Life Foundation (June 14); Noah’s Animal House (June 21), and Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas (June 28).

Church anniversary
Little Church of the West celebrated its 70th anniversary this month. The church is one of the oldest buildings on the Strip and has been the location of many celebrity weddings.
Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford — and Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie said their vows at Little Church of the West. Betty Grable, Judy Garland and Robert Goulet are among the famous names who have walked down the church’s aisle.
It was also featured in the 1964 movie “Viva Las Vegas!” starring Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret.
The church has survived three moves, which is a feat worth celebrating in a town known for imploding its past.
It has even been listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. So the next time you have Champagne in your hand, raise a toast to the Little Church that Could.
