Debbie Reynolds was as ribald as ever in a sort of farewell show Saturday at the South Point, where she joked that she didn’t expect to be living in Beverly Hills and her boobs to be living in San Diego.
Carrie Fisher joined her mom on stage for the first time. Debbie’s son Todd Fisher shot the Saturday event — the first Debbie-Carrie stage performance — with a GoPro while a documentary crew was in tow.
How was the show?
“To use a grandparent phrase, it was a kick in the pants,” Morris said.
Debbie sang and danced along to a few old film clips and talked wistfully about old co-stars.
Carrie, smeared in glitter, touched on the issues of Mark Hamill, and her own history with drugs and bipolar disorder.
Debbie and Carrie sure have lived. Todd, too.
Debbie told me recently her weekend at the South Point would be some of her last shows for a while.
And so, this was like a sweet send-off of sorts, with Carrie and her daughter Billie Lourd singing to, and with, Debbie, truly one of the last gems of the Golden Age.
Review-Journal photographer Sam Morris has put together a family photo album of the event. Check out the gallery.
