“Minions” should rule over the box office this weekend, which is pretty appropriate since the “Despicable Me” spinoff features a subplot in which Minion Bob becomes the king of England.
Here’s a look at this week’s new releases, “Minions,” “Self/Less,” “The Gallows,” “Amy” and “The Cokeville Miracle”:
MINIONS: Those little yellow mumblers Kevin, Stuart and Bob head to 1960s London, seeking to serve supervillain Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock), in the animated “Despicable Me” prequel. At multiple locations. (91 min.) PG; action and rude humor.
SELF/LESS: A dying wealthy man (Ben Kingsley) has his consciousness transferred to a different body (Ryan Reynolds) in this sci-fi thriller. At multiple locations. (117 min.) PG-13; sequences of violence, some sexuality, and language.
THE GALLOWS: Twenty years after an actor was killed during a high school play, students try to honor him by restaging the production, with disastrous results, in this horror tale. At multiple locations. (80 min.) R; some disturbing violent content and terror.
AMY: Previously unseen footage and unearthed audio tracks help tell the dramatic rise and fall of troubled singer Amy Winehouse in this documentary. At multiple locations. (128 min.) R; language and drug material.
THE COKEVILLE MIRACLE: The 1986 standoff in which a couple armed with guns and a bomb held more than 100 children hostage in a Wyoming school is retold in this faith-based film.
