Metallica adds yet more Sphere shows
Like sand falling in an hourglass, the dates for Metallica continue to gradually pile up.
The hard-rocking band (with a measured method of posting dates) has added 12 dates in 2027 to its Sphere residency. The new shows are Feb. 4 and Feb. 6, Feb. 18 and Feb. 20, Feb. 25 and Feb. 27, March 4 and March 6, and March 11 and March 13. General on sale is 10 a.m. PT Friday.
There have already been widespread complaints among ticket-buyers that the presale process has caused the prices to rocket to more than $3,000, with glitches permeating online access. Even fan club members reported being in a queue of more than 300,000 would-be ticket-buyers.
Metallica’s social-media pages continue to warn fans of “scammers.” The band asks fans to only transact with official partners at Ticketmaster, Superfan.Live, Vibee and Tixr for various ticket, room and travel packages.
As expected, Metallica’s Sphere residency has generated “unbelievable demand,” now with a total of 24 dates set. This week, dates on Oct. 8, Oct. 10, Nov. 5, Nov. 7, Jan. 28 and Jan. 30. The original set of announced dates are Oct. 1 and Oct. 3, Oct. 15 and Oct. 17, Oct. 22 and Oct. 24, and Oct. 29 and Oct 31.
The band’s series follows the “No Repeat Weekend” format. No songs repeated on either Thursday or Saturday throughout the run.
“This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting,” drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement announcing the original run. “We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months’ time, and way f—n’ psyched to go next level!”
