Go time: Rock Hall of Famer takes a second swing at off-Strip club
Robbie Krieger raised some eyebrows in April when he brought his band to the Copa Room at the Tuscany. Consider this: “Raised Eyebrows: The Sequel.”
The Doors legend returns with The Soul Savages on Sept. 5, Labor Day weekend. The performance had been originally scheduled for June 12, moved because of “unforeseen circumstances.” The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s band is described as “a powerhouse ensemble delivering a bold, immersive journey through melodic, psychedelic rock and deep soul.”
Having not experienced this particular variation of Krieger’s artistry, we’ll go with that.
The Savages’ return shows the Copa Room, with anchor production “The Rat Pack Is Back,” is reinforcing its rock roster. Canadian metal powerhouse Anvil headlines June 14. The Guns N’ Roses tribute Hollywood Roses is up Friday night ($5 cover), with Grateful Dead tribute Catfish John on Saturday (no cover).
Tribute bands abound throughout the month. Turbo Lover & Flight 666 (Judas Priest/Iron Maiden) are June 13, Super Beast and Guerilla Radio (Rob Zombie/Rage Against the Machine) June 18, Sin City Saints (modern-rock covers) June 19, Retrosonic (’80s and ’90s rock) June 20, The Bones (punk, hard rock, with a satiric lyrical spin) June 26, Dirty Ratt/Red Hot (Ratt and Motley Crue) on June 27, RnR Church (classic rock jam) at the rock-brunch buffet June 28.
If you can’t find a genre to your liking in this stretch, you’re in the wrong room. But the Copa Room rocks it, relentlessly. Go to tuscanylv.com for intel.
