Brandon Flowers announces Las Vegas Strip date in ‘Thrasher’ tour
Brandon Flowers is set to perform where “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” Garth Brooks and Sebastian Maniscalco have headlined.
The Killers’ frontman has announced his first show ever at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas on Oct. 6, supporting his upcoming album, “Thrasher.” Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com.
The album is due Aug. 21. “Plans,” its first single, drops Friday. “Thrasher” follows Flowers’ solo albums “Flamingo” (2010) and “The Desired Effect” (2015).
The country release is said to be inspired by Flowers’ early years in Nephi, Utah (not on the upcoming tour). The rocker, and now rock-country crossover star, spent much of his upbringing in Las Vegas.
Flowers’ solo tour spans the globe and runs through the fall. He opens in Phoenix on Sept. 1, closing in Dublin, Ireland, on Oct. 27.
With “Thrasher,” Flowers departs from his rock-new wave underpinnings. Nashville studio masters Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado worked with Flowers on the new album. The country release features Gillian Welch collaborator David Rawlings on guitar, Bruce Bouton on pedal steel guitar, and 85-year-old Charlie McCoy, who played on Bob Dylan’s pioneering Nashville recordings.
Flowers’ next Vegas stage is among the busiest and most profitable small-cap venues in the country. Encore Theater frequently tops Pollstar’s list of theaters at 2,500-under capacity.
The room has a rich history of performers in myriad genres. Maniscalco, Morrissey and Roger Daltrey are among the incoming headliners. Brooks played the room from 2009 to 2014. “Spamalot” ran from 2007 to 2008, replaced by the late impressionist Danny Gans.
