Scorsese, DiCaprio reunite for ‘Shutter Island’
Movie: "Shutter Island"
When: Opening Friday at local theaters
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Morrison, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson
Director: Martin Scorsese
The story: In 1954, a U.S. Marshal investigates the whereabouts of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane — and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.
The buzz: Scorsese and DiCaprio’s fourth collaboration (following 2002’s "Gangs of New York," 2004’s "The Aviator" and 2006’s Oscar-winning "The Departed") is based on a novel by Dennis Lehane, whose "Mystic River" and "Gone Baby Gone" inspired pretty twisty mystery movies themselves. With that kind of pedigree, you’d think "Shutter Island" would qualify for a more prestigious release date. Initially, it did, but last August, the studio pushed "Shutter Island" back from October to February. As for Leo and Marty, their partnership shows no signs of slowing; their next announced project is (bully!) "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt."
