Romance Rules at Tryst

Water works.

First, it was the Mirage volcano. Then the fountains at Bellagio.

Steve Wynn’s latest, a 90-foot cascading waterfall, isn’t as big as those major Strip attractions but, as the anchor of Tryst, it is just as spectacular.

The waterfall is only the first of many assaults on the senses visitors will experience at the swank Wynn Las Vegas nightclub, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Inside, guests crowd onto a dance floor framed by sexy go-go dancers moving to the beat of hip-hop, house and rock music spun by resident DJ Justin Hoffman.

Red velvet walls, gilded mirrors and decor in reds, browns and blacks set a romantic, lover’s getaway scene, while Tryst’s outdoor patio offers guests the chance to relax in opulence.

There, the waterfall cascades into a lagoon surrounded by trees that create intimate pockets perfect for romantic encounters.

The 12,000 square-foot nightclub has a small, intimate feel to it, but it can hold about 1,300 people.

It took Wynn a few months after opening in 2005 to hit on a winning formula in the nightclub world. After failing with La Bete, Wynn struck up a partnership with Victor Drai of Drai’s Afterhours who helped turn the renamed and remodeled Tryst into one of the Strip’s more fashionable nightclubs. And it reflects in the dress code and prices.

Baggy jeans, athletic wear, hats and baggy clothing are verboten, and the dress code is strictly enforced.

Bottle service is pricey, too. One bottle for every three people starts at $450. However, the cost comes with a bright spot: Cover charges — $20 for women and $30 for men — are waived for those who reserve a table.

Tryst is open 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Thursdays are industry locals nights, while the weekends often feature guest DJs.
