Las Vegas’ Panic! At the Disco to perform Friday at Wine Amplified
Panic! At the Disco was born in Las Vegas, but singer Brendon Urie bought a house in California, and he says he “freaked my wife out” by jumping off the garage roof into the pool, like a rock star.
“The realtor was, like, ‘It’s a 10-feet deep pool,'” Urie says.
“So I was like, ‘I will be climbing up there, and I will be back-flipping into my pool,'” he says and laughs. “She hates it, but I love it, she has to deal with it.”

Urie and Panic! will perform Friday during the boozy “Wine Amplified,” an event at MGM Resorts Village on Friday (with Passion Pit, Cold War Kids and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness) and Saturday (Sublime with Rome, 50 Cent with G-Unit, and Fitz & the Tantrums). ($59-$250)
Panic! is in its 10th year. Urie hopes to have a new album out in late 2015 or early 2016. The band has two new songs, “Victorious,” and “Hallelujah.”
Visually, the dapper band has ensconced itself in ornate art forms similar to retro-futurism/steampunk. Urie says his visual style was informed by art as diverse as “Big Trouble in Little China,” other 1980s action movies, and “Casablanca.”
The great thing about retro-futurism and steampunk is they romanticize fashions and architecture from history but leave behind history’s straight-white-male-only power structure.
“I know, right?” Urie said, agreeing with the premise. “It’s actually kind of nice to introduce elements without all the homophobia, and racism, and the transgender-phobia,” he said.
“You know that question, ‘If you could live in a past time, would you want to live in, like, the early 1990s?’ Hell no! People probably smelled way worse, showered less often, were way more racist.
“I don’t know if my brain could be able to handle that.”
