Kids get head start on Vegas Valley Book Festival

Child-friendly pre-festival events for the annual Vegas Valley Book Festival kick off Saturday along the city’s cultural corridor.

Create lab notebooks in the interactive workshop “The Magic of Harry Potter” at 11 a.m. at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. North. A magic show follows at 12:30 p.m. Call 384-3466 for details.

A bookmaking workshop begins at 10 a.m. at the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Call 382-5437 for details.

Youngsters can write letters to military heroes 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park, 500 E. Washington Ave. Call 436-3511 for more information.

Children’s authors Doug DuCharme, Sid Goodman, Denise Ashurst and Jackie Yoxen help children age 5 to 12 make books at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Book sales and signings are planned. Call 507-3514.
