Effects transform Rain nightclub into spaceship that takes off at midnight

Every Saturday night, Rain at the Palms transports guests to Perfecto Las Vegas, the world of celebrity DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Audio and video effects transform the 25,000-square-foot club into a spaceship that lifts off at midnight. Oakenfold spins remixes, mashups, hip-hop and more while live performers dance and perform aerial acts.

DJ Z-Trip presides over the turntable on Friday nights in "Z-Trip’s Revolution."

Rain opened in 2001 and developed such a strong celebrity following that management began paying them to appear and sometimes entertain. Rapper Too Short and singer Dave Navarro are among the performers who have appeared at Rain.

The club enjoyed wide exposure when it served as a backdrop for the cast of "The Real World: Las Vegas," which aired in 2002 on MTV.

With a capacity of 2,000 people and three levels, Rain, open on Fridays and Saturdays, is among the larger Vegas clubs and usually is packed after midnight. Tourists make up the majority of Rain’s crowds and the average price of a drink is $12. Bottle service starts at $425 for four people. Dress code is casual.

Cover charge is $25 on Fridays and $40 on Saturdays. Local ladies always get in free while local men pay $20 on Fridays and $25 on Saturdays. Hours are from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.
