Your 5 best bets for Las Vegas dining in the week ahead

For friends

If you and your friends are out late one night and feel like oysters, Brigg's Oyster Bar at the Suncoast is ready to start shucking. The restaurant offers a select menu of $2 shooters, $3 sushi and $1 sake from 8 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Brigg's also will offer Gold Band, Fanny Bay and Hood Canal oysters on the half shell for $1 each, all day March 4.

Something new

To celebrate the opening of the new Dippin' Dots/Doc Popcorn at Premium Outlets South, 7400 Las Vegas Blvd. South, anyone who stops in between 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday can get a free small bag of Doc Popcorn and an extra-small cup of Dippin' Dots, while supplies last. There also will be a Dippin' Dots eating contest at 2 p.m., with every entrant getting a free small cup, and other giveaways are planned.

Family fun

Last week we told you about one Lenten fish fry; this week we tell you about two more: St. Thomas Catholic Church, 5317 Smoke Ranch Road, is serving three pieces of fish, a scoop of cole slaw, bag of chips, piece of cornbread, dessert and bottled water or soft drink from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Feb. 26 and March 4. It's $10, or $5 for kids 10 and younger (and hot dogs are available if they don't like fish). And Knights of Columbus St. Viator Council 8282 is serving cod flown in direct from Alaska from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays through March 11 at the parish hall at St. Viator Catholic Community, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. It's $7 for adults, $4 for kids 7-12 and free for kids 6 and younger, and takeout is available.

Solo trip

Is your name — first, last or middle — Tom, Thomas, Tommy, Thom or Tomas? If it is, you can get 50 percent off your check through Feb. 28 at Tom's Urban at New York New York, which is celebrating its first anniversary. The restaurant is offering non-Toms $5 off Tom's Size beers, cocktails or souvenir cups. Tom's also has introduced afternoon and late-night beat-the-clock happy hours, from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, with prices going up as the afternoon wears on or down as late night turns into early morning.

Date night

Here's a chance to give your date — and yourself — a taste of the good life: DB Brasserie at The Venetian will offer a Celebration of Duck and Truffles seasonal tasting menu from Monday through Feb. 28. It starts with a marble of foie gras au torchon and Perigord truffles before moving on to double duck consomme with shaved truffles, pithivier (a sort of pie) of duck confit and foie gras, moulard duck a l'orange and Gateau Basque, and it's $99, plus tax and tip. Call 702-430-1235.
