Dining Pick of the Week: Leticia’s Mexican Cocina

Leticia’s Mexican Cocina
7585 Norman Rockwell Lane, No. 1, at Farm Road, 702-445-7722
Authentic Mexican food can be hard to come by, which is why Leticia Mitchell, a native of Mexico, created Leticia’s Mexican Cocina with a pledge to make her customers feel as if they were in “su casa,” or their own home. Visited by Carlos Santana among other well-known celebrities, the restaurant has a full bar and sells original Mexican Coca-Cola, agua fresca and specialty coffees and hot chocolate. Breakfast is served all day, which includes chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, carne asada and eggs, and pancakes and pozole, a hominy-based stew. Lunch and dinner items include chicken, beef, pork, or cheese enchiladas, taquitos or tostadas with shredded chicken, beef or cheesy potato, tamales and tortas. Chef’s specials include molcajete de mariscos, which is prawns, lobster tail, clams, mussels and tilapia served with seafood sauce on a bed of poblano white rice, and pescado a la Veracruz, tilapia filet cooked in a tomato Ranchera sauce with onions and green olives. Portions are large and can be shared between two people. Popular desserts include Mexican fried ice cream and churros. Chips are served as a starter with two different types of salsas and bean dip. Dishes average between $10 and $20. Leticia’s Mexican Cocina is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
