New Cage flick shooting, naturally, in Vegas

Oscar winner Nicolas Cage is getting another opportunity to film on his home turf.
A mustachioed Cage has been filming scenes of “The Trust” in Las Vegas in recent weeks with Elijah Wood.
They play corrupt cops who find a hidden safe in the police department. The safe is filled with mysterious contents that take them down a dangerous course.
Scenes were shot last week at the Peppermill Restaurant and Lounge and at the Riviera.
It was 20 years ago that Cage filmed “Leaving Las Vegas,” in which he won a best actor Oscar.
Cage also filmed “Honeymoon in Vegas” here and scenes from “Con Air.”
An October release of “The Trust” is planned.
Cage moved to Las Vegas in 2012.
‘BEAST MODE’ SIGHTING
Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch showed up at SLS about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Fresh from the Super Bowl in Phoenix, he was accompanied by his cousins. They partied at Foxtail nightclub.
Lynch was at the center of the Super Bowl’s controversial finish, when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a goal line pass, which was intercepted, instead of giving the ball to Lynch, their All-Pro back.
COWHERD COOL ON NHL
ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd has concerns about the viability of a National Hockey League team in Las Vegas.
Cowherd, whose career took off in Las Vegas, is worried that too many potential NHL fans have night-shift jobs.
“It’s a weird city in which a lot of the money in Vegas are people who are working the late shifts,” he told Dana Wagner, co-host of “Wake Up With the Wagners” on KSNV-TV, Channel 3.
Wagner interviewed Cowherd in Phoenix during Super Bowl week.
“Vegas isn’t Milwaukee,” Cowherd said. “It doesn’t need sports. How many people go to Vegas and say, ‘I’m bored. Let’s go to a hockey game.’ ”
Wagner and Cowherd met in Las Vegas in the early 1990s when Wagner was covering University of Nevada, Reno football at a Reno TV station and Cowherd was the sports director at KVBC-TV, Channel 3, now KSNV.
“We needed someone to do the UNLV sideline at Sam Boyd Stadium,” Wagner said.
Cowherd agreed to do it.
Not long after the game, Wagner said a package arrived in the mail.
“As a thank-you, he sent a necktie” Wagner said.
“I’ve never forgotten that,” he said.
THE SCENE AND HEARD
Upon further review, I fumbled. The official winner of the Review-Journal’s Super Bowl poll was colleague Mark Whittington, deputy editor of sports and features at the R-J. He had the exact score, 28-24, but he’s giving all credit to the Madden video game. “I take no credit for that pick,” Whittington said. “I’m a horrible bettor.”
UFC President Dana White, a big New England Patriots fan, had ’em winning 28-17. In a prediction text to me on Friday, he nailed the Patriots’ total in the wild 28-24 finish. …
A Feb. 27-28 auction will feature the late Jim Rogers’ Classic Car Museum Collection. More than 230 classic cars will be offered. Mecum Auctions is handling the event. All proceeds from the auction sales and collected gate admission will benefit The Rogers Family Foundation.
