Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas this week
These are the Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas for the week of Friday, Oct. 2 through Thursday, Oct. 8:
ongoing
Metallica
Since day one some 45 years ago, Metallica has sought to overwhelm, beginning with their rampaging, faster-than-thou debut, “Kill ’Em All.” It was only a matter of time, then, for the thrash pioneers to take over Sphere, where the visual overload will rival the sonic excess at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Thursday. Resale tickets are available at ticektmaster.com.
‘Oh, Mary!’
Mary Todd Lincoln yearns for a life as a cabaret performer in the weeks leading up to her husband’s assassination in the darkly comedic farce “Oh, Mary!” See the Broadway smash at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with additional performances through Oct. 11, in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center. Tickets start at $57.90; thesmithcenter.com.
Parade of Mischief
An annual Halloween parade returns to Park Centre Drive in Downtown Summerlin starting at 6 p.m. Friday and continuing on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 24. This year’s Parade of Mischief features performances and floats inspired by “Wicked,” “Harry Potter,” “Cruella,” “Hocus Pocus,” “The Addams Family” and Día de los Muertos, along with other Halloween-themed entertainment. Visit summerlin.com.
‘Golden Glow’
The UNLV Department of Dance will open its 50th anniversary season with “Golden Glow,” described as “a vibrant reflection on the department’s past, present and future.” See it at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Tickets start at $25.25; mpv.tickets.com.
Aroma’s late-night menu

The menu of more than 20 dishes features pa’ compartir (shareable plates), tacos, sandwiches, a hot dog and a mixed grill for two. Look for baby Dutch potatoes with chimichurri, Chinatown ceviche, passion fruit-glazed baby back ribs, grilled red snapper tacos, guisada braised beef tacos, a pork belly Cubano, a perro caliente Latin American hot dog, and the mixed grill with four meats, salad, garlic butter potatoes and condiments. AYCE Oktoberfest
At 5 p.m. Friday, The Front Yard at Ellis Island is presenting the property’s latest edition of its I Don’t Give a Fork food series. The utensil-free event features an all-you-can-enjoy spread of Bavarian favorites and German sides, along with beer specials, live music and Oktoberfest-inspired competitions. Guests can also test their skills in pretzel-eating and stein-holding contests throughout the evening. Tickets are $55 through OpenTable or the Ellis Island events page.
Jack White
“Welcome to the end of the world,” Jack White sings on “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs,” an existential blues ripper that opens his latest album, “Frozen Charlotte,” with hair on fire and guitars just as blazing. It sets a suitably sweaty tone for a record meant to be experienced on your feet, White’s concussive rumble aimed at knocking you back on your heels. See him at 8 p.m. Friday at the BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau. Tickets start at $115; ticketmaster.com.
