Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas this week

Here are Neon’s top picks for things to do in Las Vegas from Friday, July 31, through Thursday, Aug. 6.

through the weekend and week

‘Mrs. Doubtfire’

They don’t make Scottish nannies like this anymore. It’s your final weekend to see the “Mrs. Doubtfire” musical residency at The Venetian. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Venetian Theatre. Tickets start at $56.55; ticketmaster.com.

High Summer menu

Michael Mina at Bellagio, which recently hosted the pop-up of the famed Alinea restaurant of Chicago, has introduced its High Summer tasting menu offered through the season. The menu celebrates seasonal ingredients and Mediterranean flavors in courses such as ahi tuna tartare with pluot and umeboshi, applewood-grilled branzino with zucchini pistou (pesto), and Muscovy duck breast and foie gras with pickled green strawberry. The cost is $250; bellagio.mgmresorts.com or 702-693-7111.

‘Peaks and Valleys’

“Peaks and Valleys: Capturing the Highs and Lows of the Las Vegas Valley” pulls from the sketchbooks of local urban artists to document the valley’s physical and emotional landscapes. The exhibition is on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, through Aug. 21, in the Mayor’s Gallery at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. Admission is free.

friday

Showcase Dinner

Beginning 8 p.m. Friday, A Hand Up Hospitality, which provides training for meaningful hospitality careers to young adults facing employment challenges, and Whaler’s Creation, a local adoption agency, are presenting their Showcase Dinner celebrating A Hand Up’s inaugural student cohort, who will welcome guests and prepare and serve a three-course meal. The event takes place at La Casa de Juliette, 7585 Norman Rockwell Lane. Tickets are $55; eventbrite.com.

saturday

Pollinator Party

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Clark County Wetlands Park will celebrate all of Southern Nevada’s pollinators: bats, bees, butterflies, bugs and birds. Kids up to age 12 are welcome for games and crafts and will plant a flower to take home and watch grow. Registration is $5 per child, with children under 2 free; register at clarkcountynv.gov.

Neighborhood Block Party

From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, The Neighborhood Food Hall in The Resort at Summerlin is presenting The Neighborhood Block Party, a benefit for Project 150, a local nonprofit that supports homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students. The event features a Food Crawl Passport that provides tastings from participating restaurants, as well as live entertainment, craft vendors and summer treats. The passport costs $25 in advance, $30 at the door; theresortatsummerlin.com.

AC/DC

AC/DC has taught us so much over the years. Among the many lessons learned: Rock ’n’ roll ain’t noise pollution; it’s a long way to the top (if you want to rock ’n’ roll); and dirty deeds don’t always have to be costly. And they’re not done schooling us just yet: Class is back in session at 7 p.m Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. Tickets start at $81; ticketmaster.com.

Enhyphen

Filling the void of vampire-themed K-pop groups at long last, Enhypen are here to make fantasy a reality with their supernaturally enhanced songbook. Breathe easy scaredy-cats, the band is out for your heart, not your blood. See them at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. Tickets start at $86; axs.com.

wednesday

STLV: Trek to Vegas

As part of “Star Trek’s” 60th anniversary, the three surviving original cast members — William Shatner, George Takei and Walter Koenig — are scheduled to attend the annual STLV: Trek to Vegas convention. They’ll be among the roughly 200 special guests at the gathering, scheduled for Wednesday through Aug. 9 at the Rio. Admission for the entire weekend starts at $409; creationent.com.

thursday

Death Cab for Cutie

Indie rockers Death Cab for Cutie are indie once more: After a six-album run with major label Atlantic Records, they’ve signed with the independent Anti- for their new album, “I Built You a Tower,” a punchy, poignant pep talk about finding a way to hold it all together somehow. See them at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Tickets start at $68; axs.com.
