Go time: Las Vegas horn band blows into Fremont East rock club

It seemed just a matter of time until a slammin’ Las Vegas horn band headlined at a busy rock club on Fremont East.

The Soul Juice Band opens a monthly residency at Backstage Bar &Billiards at Fremont Country Club, 601 Fremont St., from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday (June 18). David Tatlock’s band built a following at the House of Blues pre-pandemic and later at Station Casinos properties.

The 10-piece band has a stack of originals and mixes in covers of Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Aretha Franklin, Tower of Power and KC and the Sunshine Band.

The event is a benefit for Kidz Uplifting Kidz Foundation, which collects new children’s clothing and monetary donations for boys and girls at Clark County’s Child Haven shelter.

Owned and operated by Ava Berman and her husband, “Big Daddy” Carlos Adley, the club presents an assortment of classic rock, metal, punk, reggae — essentially all genres that create chaos. Green Day even played the club in a pop-up four years ago.

Referred to as “Triple B” by devotees, Backstage Bar &Billiards is billed as “Rock and Roll for the Big Kids.”

The club’s Saturday night headliner, Alain Whyte, has been Morrissey’s writing partner and wrote all of the music for the “Your Arsenal” album. Wednesday (June 17), famed New York promoter Sandy Michelle brings “Trans Girls Las Vegas” to the party. The show is a social gathering, high energy with burlesque performances in a cabaret-style environment.
