Readers spy strawberry-rhubarb pies

It’s rhubarb season — good news for those who like rhubarb pie (a favorite at my house), raspberry-rhubarb pie (which I saw at a pie shop near St. George, Utah, recently) and strawberry-rhubarb, which Bill Meyers is seeking.

Fred Brown faxed that “the very best” strawberry-rhubarb (and rhubarb) pie is available at Southwest Diner at 761 Nevada Highway in Boulder City; M.P. Pierce, who also recommended Southwest Diner, emailed that the pie has “some of the best pie crust I’ve ever tasted.” Julie Kisosondi emailed that it’s available seasonally at Fresh &Easy, and Angelica Orme said it can be found year-round at Marie Callender’s (but she said you may have to call and order it if it’s out of season) and seasonally at Smith’s bakeries. …

For Cherie Thibodeau, who’s looking for semolina, Ann Brown emailed that she can find it at Sprouts Farmers Market and Smith’s. Gloria Castricone also suggested Sprouts. John Bisci Sr. and Joe Gilleo also suggested Smith’s, for the Bob’s Red Mill brand, or www.kingarthurflour.com. Michele Bonelli found it at Cugino’s Italian Deli at 4550 S. Maryland Parkway. And Anna Trifiletti of Siena Foods Wholesale and Italian Market at 6125 S. Valley View Blvd. said they carry it in 1-kilo bags. …

For Jennifer Esposito, who’s looking for caponata, Paul said they carry Pastene and Cuoco brands. …

For Samantha Sims, who’s looking for lardo, Dee Testa emailed that it’s available at Echo &Rig at Tivoli Village, 440 S. Rampart Blvd. …

For Cheryl Berggren, who’s looking for lavash, Ann Brown recommended Great Buns Bakery at 3270 E. Tropicana Ave., and Cindy Pitochelli emailed, “Trader Joe’s carries a packaged lavash that is delicious.” …

More on stuffed peppers: Kisosondi emailed that “excellent” stuffed peppers are on the menu at the Market Grille Cafe, which has locations at 7175 W. Lake Mead Blvd. and 7070 N. Durango Drive. And while it’s not a restaurant, Rose Rinehart emailed to say she buys Hungarian Style Beef Stuffed Cabbage at Costco, and when she has sauce left over, she freezes it and puts it in a slow cooker with a beef roast and Ro-Tel tomatoes or chili sauce.
