Celebrate NKOTB show with these earworms
Whether you’re hangin’ tough with New Kids on the Block, taking a ride with Nelly or ain’t to proud to beg with the surviving members of TLC, Friday night should be filled with singalongs at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
In honor of this blast from the past, which kicks off at 7 p.m. with tickets starting at $39.50 (call 702-632-7580), we look at some of the top songs from all three.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
— “Step by Step” off the same titled album went to the top of the Billboard chart and can be remembered by the catchy “Step by step … ooooh baby … gonna get to you girl,” refrain.
— “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” was one of the singles on the band’s second album, “Hangin’ Tough,” which had all the girls singing, “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh/ Oh, oh, oh, oh/ Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh/ The right stuff.”
TLC
— “No Scrubs” debuted as a pseudo anti-scrub anthem with simple instructions: “No, I don’t want your number. No, I don’t want to give you mine. No, I don’t want to meet you nowhere. No, I don’t want none of your time.” Serioulsy, they don’t want no scrubs.
— Doling out advice was pretty common for TLC, which was apparent from early hit “Waterfalls” off second album “CrazySexyCool.” And the advice is simple, yet spot on: “Don’t go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes you’re used to.”
NELLY
— “Hot in Herre,” the No. 1 song off the 2002 “Nellyville” album, is so ingrained in people’s mind, when you hear someone casually say, “it’s getting hot in here,” you can’t help but respond: “So take off all your close” or “I am gettin’ so hot, I wanna take my clothes off.”
