Dining Pick of the Week: Jun’s Korean

Jun’s Korean Restaurant

445 W. Craig Road, No. 110, 702-462-5867; 8826 S. Eastern Ave., No. 113, 702-566-5867

Tucked into a strip mall on Craig Road, Jun’s Korean Restaurant offers traditional Korean dishes in a casual setting. Start off with appetizers such as Korean tacos, shrimp tempura, mandoo (dumplings) or Oriental chicken salad. Follow with soups, seafood or meat entrees. Meat choices include spicy chicken or pork, bulgogi (a thin-sliced marinated ribeye sauteed with vegetables), kalbi (barbecued beef short ribs), marinaded grilled chicken, chicken katsu (a Japanese-style fried chicken) or meat chun (beef sliced wafer thin, breaded in an egg batter and pan fried.) Just can’t narrow your choices down to one? No worries. Jun’s offers two- and three-meat combos. Or for the truly indecisive or adventurous, try Jun’s Special, a platter packed with kalbi, bulgogi, grilled chicken, meat chun and mandoo. Entrees include rice, salad and banchan — a traditional collection of side dishes such as seasoned bean sprouts, cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi and gamja jorim (sweet glazed potatoes served cold). For those new to Korean food, treat kimchi like a spirited salsa. It’s best in small doses accompanying rice and meats and not straight. Prices range from $6.95 for a vegetable rice bowl and $7.95 for the Korean ramen to $13.95 for Jun’s Special. For those hoping to reproduce the dishes, Jun’s sells sauces in take-home jars. Jun’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, visit junskoreanlv.com.
